For Ep. 150, Bailey met with Utah-born artist Alma Allen inside his family’s Mexico City home in advance of his widely discussed upcoming presentation for the U.S. Pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale. In this exclusive interview, Allen talks about his plans for Venice and how he’s dealing with the noise, controversy, and debate around his selection; his upbringing as one of 11 children in a Mormon household; his peripatetic path from homelessness to art-world ascendancy; and the primordial nature of his work.

Allen’s episode marks the latest “site-specific” conversation of Time Sensitive. While the majority of episodes are recorded in The Slowdown’s New York City studio, select recordings take place at sites of personal, cultural, and/or architectural interest. Time Sensitive Season 13, which runs through June 2026, debuted on March 8 with Ep. 147 featuring legendary dancer and choreographer Lucinda Childs. This 150th-episode milestone arrives as The Slowdown approaches its seventh anniversary in May.
